Mirko might have one more decent performance left in him, and with him being such a large underdog against a guy that will likely fight him standing up I think it’s worth a play. Roy has the biggest advantage on the ground but I don’t think very much time will be spent there. Mirko will be able to stuff enough takedown attempts or get up quickly if he does get taken down and continue on his feet hopefully throwing high kicks like he did in his Pride days. I think Mirkos most likely path to victory will be a TKO late in the second round.

I have been buying Diaz anywhere from +108 to +122 over the last few days and it has quickly become a few buy-ins. Bottom line, if BJ can sub or knockout Nick I will gladly hand over that money because I just can’t ever see that happening. Nick will use his superior standup (yes Nick does have the better standup) and long reach to make BJ look old and slow. By the time round 2 starts Nick will be coasting and BJ will be lucky to make it through the fight without getting KO’d. If the BJ that fought Frankie Edgar shows up…oh my, it’s gonna be ugly. Even if a good BJ (lol) shows up I’d still think he should be the underdog in this fight. Getting Nick at anything above +110 is a great deal.

Nothing too out of line here preflop or even on the flop, the turn is where Rufus lays down his plan. When this guy checks behind on the flop I can assume he doesn’t hold a Q, nut flush draw, or even a set as I’d think this guy would bet those hands. Turn comes and unless he has 22 nothing has changed, so do I want to bet $8 and get a fold from his KT-AJ? Not really. I know this guy isn’t the most thinking player at the table so I decide I’m going to attempt to induce a bluff by making a very small turn bet…it works. He has no pair and no draw but is facing a $4 bet into a $15 pot, folding would hurt macho mans ego, but he knows calling isn’t a good option either so he raises. Here’s where the “button masher” part of his name comes into play, he hits the 3/4 bet button because he can’t think off any other amount, plus hey “that shortcut button must be there for a reason.” I call thinking all I have to do is avoid an A, K, and J. The river is golden, I really couldn’t have asked for a better card to fall down and I insta-check. As expected he bets and again he mashes the 3/4 pot button. I didn’t insta-call in this spot, however my mind was already made up. I went over his possible hands again, and the only hands he’s repping are monsters such as 33 or 22. If he turns over 22 I guess I look a little silly, but I wear two watches, two hats, and sunglasses regularly out in public so I’m not too afraid of that. I can confidently make this river call and he shows an A8.
