Rakeback Explained
Rake is money that the poker rooms deduct from every pot and this is how they make their money. Rake is typically 5% of the pot up to a maximum of $3. This may not seem like much but when you consider the number of players and how many hands are dealt this money adds up very quickly and proves to be a very nice profit for the poker room.
The way to get some of your rake money back is by signing up through a rakeback affiliate. Affiliates refer players to a poker room and in turn the poker room gives a percentage of the players rake to the referring affiliate. Rakeback is the amount refunded to the player. Depending on the poker room a player can earn from 27%-33% of their paid rake back. For example, a player signing up for UltimateBet will be eligible to receive 30% rakeback. If this player generates $1,000 in rake during any given month they will get $300 of that back.
Even break-even or losing players may still be able to make money playing poker when receiving rakeback. Every player pays into the rake, with a rakeback deal every player is able to get some of that money back, why let the poker room keep it all?
The amount you can earn depends on the stakes and the amount of hands you play. A player at low limit games can earn up to a couple hundred dollars at the end of the month, but a higher limit player who multi-tables can earn thousands.
